©️ CRC32 Generator

Compute the CRC32 checksum of any text. Standard CRC32 algorithm with polynomial 0xEDB88320, output as an 8-digit hex string.

About the CRC32 Generator

CRC32 (Cyclic Redundancy Check, 32-bit) is a widely used checksum algorithm that detects accidental changes to data. It uses the polynomial 0xEDB88320 (reflected form of 0x04C11DB7) and produces a 32-bit value, commonly shown as an 8-digit hexadecimal string. This tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  • The input text is first encoded as UTF-8 bytes.
  • A 256-entry lookup table is built from the polynomial 0xEDB88320.
  • Each byte is XORed into the running checksum, which is then shifted and table-indexed.
  • The final value is inverted and formatted as an uppercase 8-digit hex string.

Use cases

  • Verifying file or message integrity against a known CRC32 value.
  • Generating checksums used by ZIP, PNG, Ethernet and many other formats.
  • Quickly detecting accidental data corruption in transit.
  • Building identifiers or hash-like values for non-cryptographic purposes.

Frequently asked questions

Is CRC32 secure for passwords? No. CRC32 is a checksum, not a cryptographic hash. It is fast and collision-prone and must never be used for password storage or authentication.

Does this tool upload my text? No. All computation happens locally in your browser.

Why does my output differ from another tool? Some tools compute CRC32 on raw bytes while others apply different encodings or initial values. This tool encodes input as UTF-8 and uses the standard initial value 0xFFFFFFFF with final inversion.

What is the output format? An 8-character uppercase hexadecimal string, zero-padded, such as CBF43926 for the input 123456789.
